Not Recommended. I seem to be all alone on this one but I did not enjoy nor did I learn anything from Manchester By The Sea. I loved Kenneth Lonergan’s You Can Count On Me, but this film left me cold and weary. No doubt, the Oscar winner (Gone Baby Gone) worked hard on this but his ultimate part is root canal work for me . . . his whiney, dirt-kicking affickt being endlessly tiresome. So if you like this mumbly nonsense, you are in luck. I find enough misery in real life. Suffice to say, Afflick’s character loses his brother and gains custody of his nephew which he disgracefully gives up. Michelle Williams (Wendy and Lucy) gives me more pleasure in extreme pain and the kid, played by Lucas Hedges (Moonrise Kingdom) is rendered intelligently but all else is pointless. My life would be undiminished by passing on this film.
