Recommended. As one might guess from the title, Jackie is pretty much a one-woman show. The film begins and ends on Natalie Portman’s face and is structured around the famous Teddy White interview with her a week after the assassination. As the Nation trembles at the unthinkable, Jackie is forced to recollect the unspeakable, which is also shown us in more graphic horror than you’ve ever seen. But the blood and grey matter is less real than the amazing Ms. Portman’s wander through the several rooms of her character’s grief, pulling herself back - - barely - - to steely sobriety after she begins to understand her historical encumbrance. Director Pablo Larraín (No) has flashed this collaborative talent before. Mica Levi’s (Under The Skin) oddball - - but Oscar-nodded - - score at first grates but then settles into the surreal atmosphere and Peter Sarsgaard (An Education) give us a unique and thoughtful take on Bobby Kennedy.
