Recommended. Fortunately, I saw the Ivan Reitman version of this story with enough age on me to form an adult opinion. Ditto for Bridesmaids, also directed by Paul Feig (Ghostbusters) and featuring Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters) and Kristen Wiig (How to Train Your Dragon 3). They’re both wonderfully funny movies but not exactly Citizen Kane. The newest version features - - in addition to McCarthy and Wiig - - Saturday Night Live breakouts, Kate MacKinnen (The Big Gay Sketch Show) and Leslie Jones (Trainwreck). Both ladies are very amusing; however, Ms. Jones brings out a few irritating script flaws. She basically reprises her Weekend Update persona, which in this use smacks a bit too much of the Bowery Boys/scared Negro trope. Bill Murray’s cameo was also disappointing . . . too short to really soar, long enough to embarrass. But, all in all, the girly Ghostbusters is a good movie, full of laughs and satisfying as an evening's entertainment.
